Ottumwa city officials pleaded their case in front of Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge Thursday morning.
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- City officials prepared a presentation showing judge 18 infrastructure projects that need funding.
The governor and lieutenant governor have devised a plan called the Iowa Jobs Initiative.
State leaders hope to bond for $700 million to get infrastructure projects across the state up and going.
This money would supplement the funds the state will already get in the federal stimulus package.
Ottumwa leaders are hoping a big chuck of it will come the city's way.
“We will hopefully form a board of citizens from across the state. We'll be able to look at the projects and decide which projects are first, second and third that will not be a decision the governor and I will make ourselves but I will tell you, too that the case that was made here today by Ottumwa was very compelling,” judge said.
Governor Chet Culver proposed the initiative during his condition of the state address.
Judge told KTVO that they are planning to make payments on the bonds with revenue from the state's gaming facilities so there are no tax increases for Iowa residents.
