KIRKSVILLE, MO -- If you haven't filed your 2008 income tax return yet, our Fact Finder Team discovered how you can get your taxes done for the low price of absolutely free.
Fact finder learned that Truman State University offers free tax return preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA program.
VITA is sponsored by the IRS and the Beta Alpha Psi Accounting organization, and gives accounting students hands-on experience as they do your taxes under the supervision of graduate assistants and professors.
“Definitely the free aspect is probably the number one reason to get your taxes done, but we also offer just a one on one service. We sit down with you, you have three different people check it through three different processes, so it’s a lot of hands on interaction,” said Laura Lasher, an Accounting Graduate Assistant.
