KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It's no secret that new and used car sales are down across the nation.

But we found one business that is flourishing because of that.  Tires and Tailpipes in Kirksville said most customers are taking better care of their vehicles and making them last as long as possible.

Most businesses that sell cars also work on them.  And we found that is the one of the main reasons they're surviving.

“My used car business is down and down dramatically just as a result of the economy.  But my repair business, because we do automotive repairs, is more that made it up.  We're having a real busy month in our shop,” said owner John Sutter.

Sutter says most people are simply taking care of the normal wear and tear on their cars.

He says they are especially cautious when they go on long trips.
