NEAR NOVINGER, MO. -- The Adair County Sheriff’s Department is on the lookout for some mailbox vandals.
Over the weekend, someone clobbered a number of mailboxes along First Settlement Trail east of Novinger.
Residents say they think it happened between 10 p.m. and midnight Saturday.
Sheriff Bob Hardwick says they have no suspects right now.
Peggy Hettinger said she found out about the damage when one of her neighbors called her.
"I checked my mailbox, and it was missing. I thought they had stolen it, and it wasn't. It was actually, they had hit it, and it went over the fence and landed behind the fence by the tree line,” said Hettinger.
Hettinger said deputies seized her mailbox as evidence because it had some vehicle paint on it.
She also said she'd like to see those responsible for the damage to at least have to pay for new mailboxes and posts.
"They don't have anything else better to do. They're probably meth addicts or something like that just out joyriding. When they get them, they'll do their time,” said Steve Hettinger.
