OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Fairfield’s 1st Friday’s Art Walk opened up their new year of festivities with a hot, cutting edge display.

The Sondheim Center hosted a unique show of fire and ice Friday night.

An ice sculpture of Fairfield accompanied by a snow man was carved on-site by sculptor and carver, Bill Gordish.

The sculpture took around two-and-a-half hours to complete.

Just yards away a fire-dancer from Pyrotechniq was performing for a large crowd.

The mix of the two displays really made for an exotic evening for those attending.

We asked the co-director of the event if she was pleased with the turnout.

“Absolutely! I’m really surprised because it’s kind of chilly outside, so I was scared a lot of people would want to stay at home, but we’ve had an incredible turnout here,” said Amy Kettenburg, Co-Director.

Kettenburg also told KTVO that she is very excited about next month’s art walk themed around films.
