KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Jobs are hard to come by around the country in today’s economy, and the situation is no different in Kirksville.
Kirksville’s Director of Job Creation Phil Tate says there has never been so few potential employers looking to move to Kirksville.
“We are currently working with a few clients, but not the usual number. As a result of that, I don’t have anything out there that is ready to materialize on the horizon,” Tate said.
Tate says his focus now is keeping the jobs Kirksville does have here.
KTVO asked Tate if the recent closing of County Kitchen came as a surprise. “I don’t know that it came as a shock to me. I hate to see us lose any job in Kirksville. Most of my emphasis is on industrial jobs. Kirksville Regional Economic Development Incorporated does not work on retail because retail is such a slippery slope,” Tate said.
Tate said incentives for companies are one way to bring them to town. Maritz, a marketing research firm, just received their 5th $30,000 check from the City of Kirksville as an incentive for keeping jobs in town.
