CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- About 31 years ago to this date, a Centerville woman lost her baby prematurely.
Now she's doing everything she can to help others who are struggling through a similar situation.
Vicki Dischner sews preemie burial outfits and designs caskets for babies.
The Des Moines woodworkers and the Newton Correctional Facility build the caskets, but Dischner spends most of her day personalizing each casket and outfit.
The burial set goes out to people across the U.S. who can't afford the expensive tiny caskets. They are free of charge.
“I went through it and I just want to help somebody else and I didn't have this when I lost Tasha. And her casket was a glorified cardboard box and it cost me over $150 and there were no outfits back then, so I had to have my grandma help me make something back then," Dischner said.
Now she needs your help. Her organization is short on volunteers, especially people who sew. Precious angels is also looking for monetary donations.
If you would like to help, you can contact Dischner at 641-895-2949 or visit www.precious-angels.org.
There will be a cutting day where volunteers help cut out the patterns for the preemie clothes on January 6 at the Faith Methodist Church in Centerville from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
