OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Construction isn’t too far away for the Ottumwa Job Corps Center.

Pretty soon crews will start building the second Job Corps Center in the state of Iowa, and it will be right here in the Heartland.

Indian Hills Community College and Wapello County teamed up to get federal funding for the center.

Soon eight buildings will go up near the airport.

“The anticipation is that sometime in January the plans will be completely done and either February or March there will be a bid letting and hopefully a ground breaking in June and an opening of the facility probably in November 2010," said Wapello County Supervisor Jerry Parker.

The Job Corps Center will provide about 140 full-time jobs and about 50 part-time jobs.

Close to 450 at-risk students ages 16 to 24 will attend class there to receive training to prepare them for high-paying jobs.

Parker said this new facility will be a second chance for many who never had the opportunity to finish their school careers.
