KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It's that time of year again. It’s time to kick up the heat on your thermostat.
But before it gets too cold, our Fact Finder team has some tips to keep you and your family safe.
If you use gas to heat your home, make sure you are cautious of leaks. Fact Finder learned dangerous gas leaks are one of the most common safety hazards.
“If they smell anything that remotely smells like gas, now they need to differentiate between sewer gas and propane or natural gas. Sewer gas is just a God awful nasty smell and your propane and your natural is more of a skunky smell,” says Swafford Heating & Cooling owner Donald Swafford.
Swafford tells Fact Finder gas leaks are especially common with older furnaces.
He says one of the best tips is to keep your furnace clean!
