DES MOINES, IOWA -- Most power has been restored across Iowa after high winds caused more than 21,000 outages.
The state's two largest utilities - MidAmerican Energy and Alliant Energy - reported early Monday that only about 250 customers were still without power.
Most were MidAmerican Energy customers, and the majority of the outages were in the Des Moines area.
The National Weather Service issued high wind warnings throughout most of the state on Sunday. Peak gusts reached as high as 60 mph in some areas of central Iowa.
Flurries were reported in Waterloo, with a dusting of snow in Mason City.
Fair and cool weather is expected across the Midwest through much of the week. A freeze warning was issued for east central and southeast Iowa for Tuesday morning, with temperatures falling into the teens and 20s.
