MACON, MO. -- A vacant plant in Macon, Missouri could soon be the home to a beef packing plant.
At the Macon city council meeting this week, officials announced the possibility of a new company purchasing the plant. Central Beef Packers is in the preliminary stages of bringing their company, and therefore jobs to the Heartland.
“The benefits of it of course is jobs. Everybody, especially this northeast region, anytime you get jobs it helps the whole region, that would be a big benefit. Of course, with this facility being so old and the renovations that will have to go into it that automatically generates dollars into your community,” says Macon City Administrator Allan Muncy.
Muncy says the money put into labor and construction will directly benefit the community.
He also says it's not a guarantee the company will come to Macon, but the city will try their best to make it a reality.
The company estimates hiring a total of 260 full-time employees.
