OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa city budget was officially approved Tuesday evening – an amount of more than $60 million.

New this year were budget workshops where members of the community could express their thoughts on the budget.

However, city council members said hardly anyone took advantage of having their voices heard.

“We're always a little bit disappointed when we have so many work sessions and open times where people can come in and talk to us about the budget and it's disheartening when we don't get those people coming in. I think we had one person in all the meetings come up and give us input on it,” said Councilman Brian Morgan.

Morgan said the council has done their best over the past several years to keep taxes low. The tax levy this year was lowered three cents.

This year’s budget included the most dollars for road projects according to Morgan.
