MACON, MO. --

An overnight car fire leads to a man's death.

Friday at 12:48 a.m. the Macon Fire Department was called to a car fire in a parking lot on East Bourke Street.

When fire crews got there, they found fire in the engine compartment.

Not only was the car on fire, but authorities said a person was inside.

Firefighters started life-saving measures on the victim, who is identified as Jeff Taylor, 50, of Macon.

Taylor was then taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

At this time, the fire is still under investigation.

Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes said Jeff Taylor’s body is scheduled to undergo an autopsy in Columbia, Mo. at 10 a.m. Saturday to determine the cause of death.
