KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Kirksville Area Technical Center is in need of volunteers for its Adult Literacy Program. Volunteers will help students who are adults that are working on getting their GED.
You do not have to have any certain training to be a volunteer. All you need is patience and some compassion.
“I think it's really great because many people who do come to our program have had bad experiences with (their) school situation … and their nervous about coming back into a school,” Volunteer Literacy Coordinator Colleen Primmer said.
“But, once they get back into it and we go over some of the basics … they pick that up pretty quickly and then they go and take their GED.”
They ask that volunteers come in for at least once a week for an hour.
