The ball is a fundraiser for the department, so that they can purchase supplies to educate kids about fire safety.

"The money we receive from the Firemen's Ball will go toward our fire safety fund; which we use to purchase helmets, coloring books and training videos for when we go to schools. We talk to preschoolers, kindergarten, second and sixth graders, to hit those main areas on the meeting place, the two ways out. We've go to start with the younger generation to get them to understand how dangerous fire is. That is our main goal with trying to collect this money, is to get as many kids educated in this as we can," said Firefighter Rodney Long with the Ottumwa Fire Department.

Tickets for the event are $7 in advance or at the door.

You can purchase tickets by calling (641) 683-0666.

The ball runs from 7 p.m. until midnight.
