FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- This weekend was the 1st Annual Young and Wild Rodeo held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
The rodeo began Friday night and ended Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, kids of all ages participated in a variety of rodeo events including a goat tail tying contest.
The rodeo was a fundraiser for Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA). On Saturday night there was a special needs rodeo with a petting zoo.
“But a lot of the SMA kids weren't able to participate because of the severity of the disease so I’d like to be able to get any kids that have any kind of disability -- kids or adults -- it’s not just one or the other, the ability to be able to come do these things because it's not everyday they can pet a goat or do some of the extra stuff,” said Beth Smith, Young and Wild Rodeo Company.
The rodeo is in honor of five-year-old Addison Tarrence who is living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
“Addison has type three which is not as severe as a lot of the kids so she’s still able to walk and move but at any given moment her legs give out and so its just really heartwarming to watch,” said Smith.
Smith hopes to make this an annual event.
