The North Central Missouri Red Cross held its annual Day of Heroes banquet Friday evening at the Baptist Student Union. The event included an award ceremony, dinner, and silent auction. Sharron Burns was awarded the Good Samaritan Hero Award, Matt Kellison was awarded the Public Safety Hero Award, and Brent Bondurant the King Foundation Education Hero award. 

"We have this event to thank the communities we work with. We cover eight counties, Adair County and every county that touches Adair County and there are so many people in those counties that are doing things both for the Red Cross and for their communities that are just outstanding acts. So, we want to thank them and thank those people that support the Red Cross," said Deane Valkenaar the Director of the North Central Missouri American Red Cross.

Keep your eyes peeled for candidates for the award ceremony next year. Three awards were not given out tonight in the categories of the Family Hero Award, the Youth Hero Award, and the Military Hero Award because no one was nominated for these categories.
