OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Selling T-shirts is a pretty common fundraiser at most high schools.

The band, the football team, and the student council are just a few of the groups that generate funds through t-shirt sales.

But the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary got some Ottumwa High School Students thinking that maybe selling t-shirts could a have amore important purpose.

So the 20 students in English Teacher Amy Drake’s Advisory group decided to make that happen.

Led by sophomore Madyson Feather, the group is in the process of designing and selling the shirts with the intention of giving the money to benefit the Sandy Hook School and its victims.

Feather wants a career as a first grade teacher after she graduates, so the tragedy hit pretty close to her heart.

“I just kinda put myself in the teacher's position, what would I do if it happened a lot of self reflection, I guess about what I would do, how I would respond,” Feather said.

Shirts will be on sale until January 21, to purchase one call 641-683-4444 Ext. 1231 or email amy.drake@ottumwaschools.com
