OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa now has its very own tortilleria.

Opening in March of 2012, owner Jose Rodas wanted to better the community in Ottumwa and thanks to the Iowa Micro Loan and Wapello County Micro Loan, he was able to open the doors to Tortilleria Los Twins.

All of Rodas’ hard work and perseverance of making his dream a reality paid off when he not only received local attention by winning the local new business of the year award at the first ever Vision Awards at Indian Hills Community College but when he also gained national attention in The Wall Street Journal.

Because Rodas does not speak much English, his son Luis told KTVO how his dad felt after seeing the article in The Wall Street Journal.

“Well at first it was a big surprise since we didn't think -- we would only imagine that someone from around Ottumwa would know about our shop and well it was a big surprise to us and it was pretty good because we got a little bit more business,” said Luis.

And for the Rodas family, this is only the beginning of Tortilleria Los Twins.

“We just want to be able to make the store bigger, get more produce, and we're thinking about buying a chicken roaster and being able to sell that to go along with tortillas.  And if we get the chance to, maybe even put up more stores like this. And we just want to get the invitation out to everybody to come try our tortillas out,” Luis.

Tortilleria Los Twins is located at 525 Church Street.

The family-run business is excited for what the future holds for them.
