OTTUMWA -- The first year of the Pages for Pennies Book Sale was this weekend at the Bridge View Center.  All of the proceeds are being split between the Bridge View Center and the Friends of the Ottumwa Public Library.

Beginning in the middle of March, an estimated 40,000 gently used books, CDs, DVDs and even vinyl records were collected for the sale.

According to the sale organizers, there was a steady stream of people coming through the doors all weekend.

“Well we've been very, very happy with the results so far. Friday we opened at 5 p.m. and there were about 100 people who were waiting to get in the doors and came and filled the room.  And we just had tons of books going out the door Friday,” said Michael Philipsen, Bridge View Board Member.

Everything was half price on Sunday and the sale ended at 5 p.m. Philipsen said that depending on how much money is made this year will determine if Pages for Pennies happens against next year.
