KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The latest jobless figures show Adair County has the next to lowest unemployment rate out of a 16-county area in northeast Missouri.
At Tuesday's meeting of Kirksville Regional Economic Development Incorporated, it was announced that as of December, Adair County's unemployment rate was 4.9 percent.
Only Scotland County had a better rate at 4.6 percent.
On an unrelated note, the K-REDI Board approved a motion to put $50,000 of it cash reserves into a CD to earn a little more interest.
Noticeably absent from the meeting was K-REDI Director of Economic Development, Carolyn Chrisman, but she wasn't playing hooky.
She is at a conference where she is sharing what Kirksville has to offer.
"She's in California right now meeting with site selectors, and it's a very important, face-to-face interaction that happens,” said Burt Beard, K-REDI Board president. “And so, we miss her at the meetings, but she's doing exactly what we want her to do. That is, meeting folks for the possibility of coming to Kirksville, Missouri."
Officials say most site selectors are familiar with Kansas City and St. Louis.
The California conference is a chance to introduce them to another part of the state, specifically Kirksville.
