KIRKSVILLE, MO -- With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, some wanted to remember the true meaning behind the holiday just a couple of days early.

The Kirksville Interchurch Ministries put on the annual Community Thanksgiving Prayer Service.

Residents gathered at Faith United Methodist Church in Kirksville Tuesday evening to take part.

There were scripture readings and songs of worship, all of which carried the message of Thanksgiving and the importance of giving to others.

"In this season of giving thanks, help us Father to hear you speaking to us and showing us how to truly give thanks," said Faith United Methodist Church Interim Pastor Dr. John Hayes.

A free-will offering was collected as part of the service. All the money from that the offering will go to the area's Buddy Pack Program.

About 80 people attended the service in Kirksville.
