The community prepares to rally around John and Shawna Mitchell as they mourn the loss of little Jad and Kal.

QUINCY, ILL. -- We have some sad news to pass along to you about the Quincy, Illinois couple who was expecting conjoined twins.

KTVO's sister station, KHQA, has learned those babies did not make it.

KHQA's Rajah Maples spoke with Neal Woollard, the worship pastor at The Crossing.

He told them John and Shawna Mitchell went in for an ultrasound checkup at a Philadelphia hospital Monday.

That's when they found out the babies had died.

Woollard told us there are a lot of unknowns at this time about why the babies didn't make it.

But this is what we do know -- they were both boys, and they were named Jad and Kal.

Shawna had a c-section Tuesday morning.

Woollard said the immediate family are with them right now in Philladelphia.

He said there will be a memorial service at some point but nothing is final right now.

We invite you to scroll down the page to leave your thoughts and condolences.
