Two KIRKSVILLE, MO -- student groups at A.T. Still University is celebrating the success of its campaign.

The Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons and Theta Psi partnered with non-profit Cell Phones for Soldiers earlier this month to help troops call home by collecting gently-used cellular phones.

Collection boxes were placed on A.T.S.U.'s campus and at several locations around Kirksville.

In total, about 130 phones were collected bringing in about $50 in donations. This year's drive was the biggest one yet.

"Normally in the year's past we've gotten only 15 cell phones, which was great. But this year with pushing hard with the community, advertising, and better exposure we were able to collect so much more...10 times more than last year," said James Scholfield, President of Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

The donated phones will be sent to Michigan-based Recellular for recycling.

The money raised will be used to purchase phone cards for soldiers serving overseas to help them make calls to loved ones back home.
