OTTUMWA,IOWA -- It’s called March for Meals and the Seneca Area Agency on Aging will be participating in conjunction with Meals on Wheels to raise awareness of  senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities.

In the ten-county region that Seneca covers, food insecurity affects many of those seniors. Each county has their own senior meal center.

And to go along with March for Meals, Seneca will have a Mayors for Meals Day where the mayor or an elected official will help serve meals to seniors.

“The people that get our meals are usually by themselves and they really welcome anyone to come and deliver a meal to them so they can say hi to them and sometimes that's the only ones they see but I think it's a good thing to have a mayor or a dignitary in our community go interact with the seniors and make them feel special as they are,” said Pam O’Leary, Seneca Area Agency on Aging.

O’Leary said Mayor’s Day will be somewhere around March 20.
