Trial date set for man facing murder charge

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- An Ottumwa man, facing a murder charge, has learned when he will stand trial.
 
Bobby Joe Snow, 41, has been declared competent to stand trial on a second degree murder charge in connection with a violent incident that occurred in May 2011. Snow's trial date has been set for July 16.
    
Snow is charged in the death of James McElroy, 40, also of Ottumwa, who died at a Des Moines hospital after being assaulted by Snow.
    
Snow is also accused of deliberately hitting Robyn Assell-Collett with his car.
    
The trial has been delayed until snow was judged to be mentally able to participate in his defense.
