KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Kirksville School Board is taking initiatives to make sure more than ever the district's students are getting the proper education.

At Wednesday evening's monthly board meeting, the board and school administrators were presented with the student achievement report.

The report is based on data gathered regarding academic achievement, attendance rate, subgroup achievement, graduation rate, and college and career readiness.

The school district is doing this achievement report to get a better idea how it's doing preparing students for the next grade level or for post-graduation.

"I'm real pleased with where we are as a district. The direction we've set, there is a lot of work to do, we are just beginning. We will learn as we go. I'm real confident that we are heading in the right direction. The bottom line is that I believe our students have and will begin to improve better," said Kirksville Schools Superintendent Pat Williams.

Williams also said that reading mastery, academic growth, and being ready for college or a career are some of the core values that will be focused on.

The board will be doing an achievement report three times a year.
