OTTUMWA, IOWA -- It’s about that time to start thinking about doing your taxes again.

The Iowa State University Extension Office in Ottumwa is offering a free tax preparation class on January 31.

The IRS is trying to put more tools out available for the general public to use to prepare their own tax returns.

The IRS has worked out an agreement with a software provider to make a certain software available called Free File available online.  And if you qualify, you can use it for free.

“An individual that has $57,000 or less in income can use the software, prepare their federal return and electrically file it. There are some limitations on software that’s available for the Iowa region, however that's a little more limited,” said Joyce Nash, Family Program Specialist.
