KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The identity of the victim in the Kirksville murder a week ago has now been released.

The victim has been identified as Willis Meredith, who also went by the name of Jake Steadman, 74, of Kirksville. According to a release from Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson, the identity was made after consulting with family members, reviewing family photos and from tattoos on the victim’s body. Amended and additional charges have also been filed in the case.

The suspect, Paul Potter, 49, of Kirksville, is now being charged with first degree murder in the case, amended from a previous second degree murder charge.

We’ll have much more on this tonight on KTVO News at 5, 6 & 10.
