OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Hundreds of people showed up at Ottumwa's Bridge View Center Saturday morning to take part in the annual Eagle Walk.

For the 8th year, nature lovers came together on a cold winter morning to witness one of nature's most majestic birds.

"I had a report back that they saw 10 or 15 Bald Eagles," said Billy Young who is with Ottumwa's Eagle Walk.

He says that the Ottumwa Eagle Walk is an event for people of all ages, because it exposes the great outdoor activities you can participate in throughout Ottumwa and southeast Iowa.

"We have a lot of outdoor activities along the river. We can canoe and kayak; we also have Greater Ottumwa Park where you can canoe and kayak. So there are just numerous things that you can do in southeast Iowa," Young said.

If you missed out on the 2013 Eagle Walk, Young says that you still have time to witness the majestic bird, but you might have to drive a little.

"They should get on the river road here in Ottumwa and follow the road from here to Douds. You will come across so many eagles. Last Sunday I saw a good 100 to 125, just between here and Eldon and they were displaying quite well," Young said.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources also participated in the program, displaying a giant eagle's nest and teaching the community about their habitat.

The entire event was held to benefit the Wapello County Trails Council and their efforts to expand the system throughout Ottumwa and Wapello County.
