'Don't go in my basement,' accused pot grower says

MACON, MO. -- A response to a residential fire, lands a Macon man in jail facing felony drug charges.

Alan White, 55, is charged with manufacturing marijuana in a residence with a child, a class "a" felony, and intent to distribute a controlled substance, a class "b" felony. He is being held in the Macon County Jail under $50,000 cash only bond.

According to court papers, Macon firemen responded to a fire in the two hundred block of Butler Street Wednesday evening.

Firemen told Macon Police there was a suspected growing operation in the basement of the home.

The suspect had told firemen not to go in the basement when they arrived at the home. Police located twenty marijuana plants growing in the basement of the residence. White told police he was going through a difficult divorce and was growing the marijuana "for some extra money". Drug paraphernalia was also located in the home.

White is scheduled for his initial court appearance on January 17, 2013.
