KNOX COUNTY, MO. -- A northeast Missouri man is dead following a mid-afternoon shooting in Knox County.

Investigators told KTVO the incident happened around 3 p.m. southwest of Novelty.

Both men involved have rural Novelty addresses.

Officials said William "Bill" Bacon, 67, is the victim in the Tuesday afternoon shooting.

He and the suspect had reportedly been involved in an ongoing dispute about whether a county road was closed or not.

Bacon was taken by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center where we're told he died in the emergency room.

The man accused of pulling the trigger is sitting in the Adair County Jail on 24-hour hold pending the filing of formal charges.

Authorities said the alleged shooter will likely face a charge of first-degree murder.

We are withholding the suspect's name until charges are filed.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Knox County Sheriff's Office are investigating.

We're told the highway patrol will issue a press release Wednesday morning regarding the fatal shooting.
