KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Monday was a busy day for the Kirksville City Council.

First up at its regular meeting, council members unanimously approved an ordinance certifying the results of the general election related to the city's new Use Tax.

The council also passed the master plan for PC Mills Park.

In other action, members approved the purchase of a nearly $32,500  transfer pump that's used to move wastewater from the sanitary sewer system to the overflow holding basin following heavy rains.

"It's a very large pump that handles over 4,000 gallons per minute, weighs almost 2,000 pounds, so we're talking a very large transfer pump," said John Buckwalter, Kirksville Public Works director.

The new pump will replace one that is almost 40 years old and worn out.

Before and after their regular meeting, city council members met in a study session with city department heads to review the proposed 2013 budget.
