KIRKSIVLLE, MO. -- The Missouri Department of Transportation is making sure you are safe on the roads this winter.

MoDOT held a statewide winter weather drill on Wednesday where it simulated a storm and asked its crews and staff to respond like they would for a storm.

Area Engineer Amy Crawford said it was good practice because since last year was a mild winter some people had not been on a plow machine for almost two years.

“Mostly when winter weather does come around (people should) drive (carefully), be safe out there (and) give our drivers the room they need to plow the roads,” Crawford said. “And, of course, we want to remind everyone to buckle up.”

Crawford said motorists can go to MoDOT's traveler information map HERE and use it to check road conditions.

Motorists can also call 1-888-ASK-MODOT (1-888-275-6636).
