KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The 2012 firearms deer season was a success.

Wednesday, The Missouri Department of Conservation will have the final numbers of how many deer were harvested, but as of now the state of Missouri is close to surpassing its own record.

“So far, amazingly our numbers are up almost 10,000 deer statewide,” Marsha Jones of the Missouri Department of Conservation said.

“(Currently) we’re at 199,997 deer statewide and so, we have the opportunity maybe to go over (the) state record.

(It) has been several years since we surpassed it.”

Jones said they appreciate all the support people have given to share the harvest.

And, she said to remember antlerless deer season opens Wednesday, and if you're going hunting make sure you wear your hunter orange.
