BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- The Davis County Tourism Corporation's annual membership drive is in full swing.

The organization oversees the Davis County Welcome Center, which is funded entirely by memberships and staffed by volunteers, so it depends on donations from the community. Over the last few weeks, 250 letters were sent out to residents asking to renew or start a membership.

The welcome center is also always looking for volunteers to give their time and help the thousands of tourists who come through Bloomfield each year. The town is full of history and has several sites that tourists always stop to see in town.

"They like the courthouse, they like the Amish community, they like eating places," said Eileen  Taylor, Co-President of the Davis County Tourism board. "And some of them come to visit family and the county fair is a very good fair here too."

Even the center itself holds history; the building was initially purchased as a Sears and Roebuck house in 1910. It was moved to its current location in 1973 and contains donations from a variety of community members throughout the years inside.

Taylor said anyone who would like to volunteer at the center can stop by and put their name in. The membership drive runs through April.
