KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Christmas spirit is already in the air here in the Heartland.

The Salvation Army's Christmas Basket Program helps families in need.

Brian Bump with the Salvation Army said the baskets include all the staples for a Christmas dinner.

"We actually had the sign-ups the week before Thanksgiving," Bump said. "We're looking to assist over 100 families with toys for their kids and food for Christmas dinner."

If you weren't able to sign up for the baskets, you still have a chance. They will be open every Friday in December from 9-noon. The pantry will be back open as normal in January.

The Salvation Army tells us getting food for the pantry has been a process this year, but they're slowly building up their food supply, thanks to the food bank and donations from the community.

Christmas Baskets will be distributed in the coming weeks, just in time for Christmas holiday.
