Arrests made in Stardust Motel stabbings

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Press release from the Ottumwa Police Department

On August 1, 2010 at approximately 12:20 AM, officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the Stardust Motel located at 2211 Roemer Avenue in Ottumwa. Upon arrival, officers determined two subjects had been stabbed. The two stabbing victims were identified as:

Christian William Deeter, 21 606 Wabash Street Ottumwa, Iowa and Alexander Jaymes Collins, 21, 137 North Davis Collins, Ottumwa Iowa

Deeter was treated at Ottumwa Regional Health Center for a stab wound to the face and released. Collins was transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City where he was treated for multiple stab wounds to his back, arms, and chest. Collins has since been released from the hospital.

Following an initial investigation, the following person was arrested for the stabbings:

Daryl Louis Johnson, 45, 2211 Roemer Ave. #45, Ottumwa, Iowa

Johnson has been charged with one count of Attempt To Commit Murder in violation of Chapter 707.11 of the Code of Iowa (Class “B” Felony) for the stabbing of Alexander Collins and Willful Injury in violation of Chapter 708.4 of the Code of Iowa (Class “C” Felony) for the stabbing of Christian Deeter. He is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail with bond set at $60,000.00.

On August 12, 2010 members of the Ottumwa Police Department arrested three individuals in connection to the stabbing. The three subjects were charged with Aiding and Abetting/Joint Criminal Conduct Burglary 2^nd (one charge – C Felony). Those charged were:

George Daniel Schakel, 44, 1124 Hammond, Ottumwa, Iowa
Christian William Deeter, 21, 606 Wabash Street, Ottumwa, Iowa
Rebecca Jean Schakel, 40, 1124 Hammond, Ottumwa, Iowa

Both Schakel’s are being held in the Wapello County Jail on $10,000 bond. Deeter was released from jail to the Department of Corrections.

In addition to the three subjects arrested, arrest warrants have been issued for two subjects charging them with Aiding and Abetting/Joint Criminal Conduct Burglary 2^nd.
