ELDON, IOWA -- Students from the Cardinal Community School District were giving back to the community Wednesday, in the form of blood donations.

The student council held a blood drive in the school’s library.

With the recent flu season, blood supply across the country has been running low for many blood banks, and students at Cardinal thought this would be a great way of giving back.

“Every year we organize three blood drives, and we start about two weeks in advanced. We send out e-mails and put up posters; we just kind of get all the students excited to sign up for it,” said Lindsay Albert, Senior at Cardinal High School.

Albert added that she, as well as the rest of the student council, wanted to be apart of the process.

“It is important because it helps out the community and it is a good way for kids to show that they can participate, even though they are only 16, 17, 18 years old,” Albert said.

The blood drive was not only open to high school students, but also open to Cardinal faculty and community members.
