KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Adult educators are advising those interested in going back to finish up their high school education to do it sooner rather than later.

Beginning January 2014 there will be new changes put into effect with the GED test.

Instead of using paper and pencil, the tests will become computerized.

But the one that has many worried is the price to take the test going up from $40 to $100 leading many to wonder if that will decrease the number of adults who want to go back to school.

"I think it would be a tremendous set back for students and for the community as a whole because the community requires a need of highly educated individuals for it to function and the more students who aren't able to come through our doors because of funding or managing their lives in general, it's going to be hard for them, the students and the community," said Adult Education/GED Program Director Tom DeBlauw.

The content will change as well such as more algebra based math and writing skills.

The Kirksville Area Technical Center is offering the GED test now and says people can get their GEDs in a matter of a few weeks to at most a year so there is still time to get it before the new changes take effect. For more information call (660) 665-2865.
