KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Truman State University is among twenty other institutions in the state of Missouri who will be receiving extra money for the current fiscal year.

This comes after Governor Jay Nixon is granting 8.4 million dollars for higher education institutions in Missouri, following a release of the January 2013 general revenue report.

Truman's President, Dr. Troy Paino says he is pleased that Gov. Nixon is advocating higher education

"This $400,000 dollars will be very beneficial. We are still going to be conservative moving forward in terms of how we spend that money because we know that we are still in very uncertain times.

Paino added the fund will help improve the learning environment at Truman.

"That $400,000 we're going to use to certainly support some academic programs and initiative on campus. More particularly try to help us with our academic technology."

The funds will be provided as a result of continued improvement in general revenue collections.

The state's January 2013 general revenue report showed that fiscal year-to-date net general revenue collections increased 9.5-percent compared to 2012.

Nixon says the positive general revenue report is the result of a continued fiscal decline and economic growth
