OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa City Council will be meeting Tuesday night and re-zoning is on the agenda.

The 5.5 acre site located in the 1,800 block of West 2nd St. just East of Fairview Ave. may soon be the site of seven mini-storage buildings.

The proposed site plans, as with any proposed request for rezone, have to be compared with all other possible permitted uses within the zoning classification.

“We've had two public hearings to date and significant public outreach and we've received no public opposition,” said Nick Klimek, City Planner.

“I just think it's a good development. It will provide a needed use for people to be able to store things without having to drive too far. It’ll be very convenient for city people,” said Joe Helfenberger, Ottumwa City Administrator.

Construction would begin this year and be finished in 2018.

Helfenberger said this would add to the city’s tax space.

The City Council will be voting on its approval Tuesday night.
