LA PLATA, MO -- The La Plata Lions Club is collecting deer hides for the Dr. Ron James Children's Diabetic Camp. The idea was started about four years ago and has seen success since then.

Every year the La Plata Lions Club try to collect at least 200 deer hides. Last year they fell short, but they're hoping this year they can reach their goal.

Marvin Seidt is spearheading this donation project. He tells us after getting all the hides, he trims them and salts them down.

"I market them, like farm commodities," Seidt said. "We take the money and it goes the diabetic camp. We have two camps, one north of Columbia and the other one is in the Republic of Georgia."

Seidt says they will be collecting the hides through the first of the year. If you would like to donate your deer hides to the Lions Cub they have two locations near La Plata. Seidt said there are two deer hide drop off locations, one on Archer Trail and the other at 408 E. Clark Street in La Plata on Highway 156.
