KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- As many are aware, A.T. Still University's new dental school is under construction in Kirksville.

A related big announcement was made at Kirksville Regional Economic Development Incorporated’s (K-REDI) meeting Tuesday afternoon: Moberly Area Community College (MACC) has agreed to look into the feasibility of beginning a new program for dental hygienists.

If it were to become a reality, it would be the first such program offered in the Kirksville area.

K-REDI Board President Ron Winkler told KTVO he met with leaders from MACC recently to discuss the possibility of the community college offering such a degree.

MACC spokeswoman Jaime Morgans said even if the college did decide to offer a dental hygienist program, the accreditation process takes years so it would not be something that would happen in the near future.

Winkler stressed that the whole process is just in the exploratory stages and is definitely not a done deal by any means.
