FARMINGTON, IOWA -- It may have been hot this weekend, but those that attended the 30th Annual Farmington Strawberry Festival both Saturday and Sunday were treated to free ice cream and strawberry toppings.

The festival was put on by the Farmington Arts Council.

Organizers said they will have gone through more than 3,000 pounds of strawberries by the end of the weekend and not to mention, more than 240 buckets of ice cream.

“This is our 30th year for doing this. It was just a bunch of local vendors -- merchants -- decided they wanted to draw some people to our town.  And at that time we had -- everything was hand picked from local strawberry fields and they used shortcake,” said Laura Powers, Farmington Arts Council.

Part of the festivities was an antique car show. The streets of downtown Farmington were packed throughout the weekend.

Powers said she thought around 10,000 people came to the festival  this weekend.
