KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- As the baby boomer population grows older, the demand for extra care is surging, but with rising costs of nearly everything, sometimes the money isn't there for the care needed.
That has created an increase in the number of family caregivers who take extra time out of their day to ensure family members are taken care of when they can't always do everything themselves, and just like parenting, it's not always easy.
Jennifer Chrisman, administrative assistant at Northeast Missouri Rural Health Network, says there is a new class in Kirksville that is free to the public that will instruct you not only on how to take care of your family in difficult times, but also on how to make sure that you take care of yourself.
“On Monday March 18th in the afternoon from 1 to 3, we are holding a ‘Powerful Tools for Care-Givers’ program in our network office at 117 West Potter Avenue and we'll be giving this care giver handbook out to each one of the participants and there is a lot of great material in that that they'll be able to learn. It's a free program and we're really excited to offer it here in Adair County,” Chrisman said.
Chrisman also adds that this class is a great place to meet other caregivers, which can be helpful when it comes to exchanging ideas and venting.
