KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A Kirksville man is in jail, on three felony charges, following an alleged incident involving a hatchet.

Billy Akin, 58, is charged with domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He is being held in the Adair County jail under $100,000 cash only bond.

According to court papers, Akin is accused of threatening three people with a hatchet at a residence in the 400 block of North Marion. The victims told Kirksville police that Akin became angry while at the residence, raised a hatchet and threatened to kill everyone.

When arrested later by police, Akin told them that he did have the hatchet for protection, but didn't threaten anyone.
