KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Ever want to be a hero?

Here's your chance!

The doors had barely been open for five minutes, and there was a long line of people ready to donate blood.

For some, they were on their 12th life saved.

The Kirksville FFA sponsored Tuesday’s blood drive at Kirksville High School.

The donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour and 15 minutes.

The donation itself takes only about 8 to 10 minutes on average.

A member of the FFA said they have had several blood drives in the past, but Tuesday's blood drive was much needed in the community.

“It’s a great way to help out our community, and we know a lot of people are in need,” blood drive coordinator, Kris Bunch, said. “And they said they were short this year, so we thought this was a good time to help out the community because there haven't been many blood drives this year.”

The American Red Cross said to eat a healthy meal and drink an extra 16 ounces of water or nonalcoholic fluids before donating blood.

Remember to bring your donor card, driver's license or two other forms of ID.
