KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It's tax season, and actually calculating your taxes may be painful.

If you've gathered up those documents for your 2012 tax return, a local organization is offering you free tax preparation.

Accounting students and members of Beta Alpha Psi at Truman State University offers free tax preparation to students and the community.

Beta Alpha Psi is an international scholastic and professional organization.

Gretchen Wright, Vice President of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance tells us the purpose of the free tax filing is to help students and the community.

"We have a free filing program where community members as well as Truman and ATSU students come in and we look at their W-2s and other tax documents. We have IRS certified volunteers who come in and we train them and then they actually help us file for them," Wright said.

Wright tells us you should be sure to bring proof of identity; copies of all W-2s, and any other tax forms received in the mail.

They have over 100 volunteers helping with the tax filing and will be offering this free tax filing every Saturday through March 2nd.
