DES MOINES, IOWA -- An Ottumwa man has claimed the first of 10 top prizes of $50,000 playing the lottery’s “Queen of Spades” instant-scratch game.

Kim Brown claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery’s headquarters in Des Moines. He purchased his winning ticket at Casey’s, 346 Richmond Ave. in Ottumwa.

Queen of Spades is a $5 scratch game. If players match any of “your numbers” with any “winning numbers,” they win the prize shown for that number.

Since the lottery’s start in 1985, its players have won more than $3 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $1.4 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.
